Orthodontics deals with correcting the position of teeth and jaws in children and adults — there is no upper age limit for a fixed appliance. Fixed braces can be conventional, with metal brackets, or aesthetic, with white ceramic brackets. There are also self-ligating braces, which shorten the treatment time.
Plate-type removable braces are used with children to treat the position of teeth and jaws during growth and development. To help a child want to wear them, there is a range of colours and images to choose from for the plate.
Treatment most often begins as the first permanent teeth come through and can last until the permanent dentition is complete. The orthodontist decides on the method from the patient’s history and an analysis of the panoramic X-ray (orthopantomogram) and the cephalogram.
